Tyler-Brasher
Public Education

Problems

  • 43rd in per student funding: TN spends $10,507 per student, while the national average is $14,347. We spend less than every neighboring state except Mississippi.

Solutions

  • Public tax dollars in public schools
  • Increasing teacher salaries
  • Increasing overall funding

Commitment

  • Father of two future Tennessee Public School Students: Tyler’s two-year-old daughter Millie and his daughter (due in September) will attend Hermitage Elementary School.
  • Graduate of Tennessee’s Public Schools: Tyler attended Decatur Country Schools in Decaturville. After high school, he headed to the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he graduated in 2011.
  • From a Family of Educators: Tyler’s mother, Patricia, has taught in Tennessee’s public schools since 1984. Tyler’s brother, Patrick, followed in their mother’s footsteps and has taught for 14 years.
